Hello Rugby Friends

Guess what?!

Registration is OPEN!

https://www.playhq.com/ca/rugby-canada/register/0c2745?referredBy=38a305e5-7e91-44f1-843a-84843f50f953

Player HQ is our new system as mandated by Rugby Canada. It is waaaaaay more user friendly than our past one, so click on the link above and off you go!

A few notes on the system:

The first time may take a little longer, as you will need to create a primary user profile as well as a profile for any dependents you will be registering. Then, to register, you just click that person and all the information will be there (I am not sure if the photo bit worked, when I did it for my daughter, but I was allowed to skip past it.). Since the profile has all the information, you will only be offered the correct category option, such as minis, u14 etc.

We will also be using Team Snap again. It will be up and running by the end of August and you will be added as you register. In the mean time, you will receive emails from this list which is last year’s. As always, the person who registered the player, is the person who will get the team snap invitation. It is your responsibility to add your spouse, player, grannie, your ex, care givers etc. Please do that.

Volunteering

If any of you are interesting in getting involved, we love to have volunteers. Managers (for minis this is super helpful, and quite easy.), kitchen, Costco runs, helping out with Kit, organizing equipment, arranging for busses, etc. Some tasks are ongoing, and others are a one off, or just a few things on the day of games, like parking lot attendant for minis jambourees. There are lots of ways to get involved. Anyone who is working closely with players, such as coaches and managers, will need to have a criminal record check.

Let me know if you are interested and I can send more details. The club is a fun place to be and many hands make light work. Thanks!

MINIS

U8 and U10 are sometimes running some fun sessions on Sundays - keep checking your team snap for information on this if you want to join. There is no additional cost; and do bring a friend who may be interested in registering for the fall and wants to try it out.

For U12 scheduling, keep a little expedition in mind for the end of May to Gibsons again. In case you lost it, here is the link from the official photographer at the tournament. Please remember to credit their work (they are water marked). https://virtualgravitymedia.shootproof.com/gallery/rugby/home

YOUTH

Girls’ sevens sessions on August 5th, 10th and 12th

That is tomorrow!

All youth girls from U14 to U18 are welcome to join these free sessions at Caps, run by Darcy Patterson, and our own Canadian Sevens player, Savannah Bauder. Please RSVP try@ryserugby.ca.

For more information on the girls programs, see our new Instagram page (A huge shout out to our rock star, player, parent, coach, manager, and volunteer, Camille, for running this.) https://www.instagram.com/capilano.girls.rugby/?hl=en

Kamloops Sevens September 19th-20th

Watch for Sevens information. Kamloops sevens is September 19th-20th. It comes up quickly, so mark the date. We are entering teams for U14, u16 and u18 boys and girls.

We have team rooms for the older players – parents are welcome to come and join the fun too though. U14 players will stay with their family/guardian groups. Transport is on your own for all players. It always seems to work out with enough parents to give rides to all players.

Deposit information links will come out soon as they will be due August 31st.

Here is the Kamloops Sevens website for information.

There are hotels listed on the site that have rugby sevens rates. Our team is booked at the Delta – we are wait listed for more parent rooms, but it is currently sold out. The Sandman is nearby, and is quite nice for parents who may want to book there. It still has some space at a comparable rate.

EVERYONE

And a few news items worth sharing again

Congratulations to all those who were selected for BC Bears and flew to Ontario to Compete, or attended the U15 build a bear camp. There were quite a few Caps there at all levels – and some who have university or current schools listed, are still honorary caps out of our youth and Minis program. You know,..Caps4life.

See here for BC Rugby Recaps (there is a build a bear one out there somewhere too):

Congratulations also to the U17 girls crew who played in the BC Summer Games for Vancouver Coastal region. They placed 5th and came together brilliantly over the 3 days. See photo of our new Caps speed demon.

Thank you to all who attended the Haka Camp

They have already expressed interest in coming again next year.

Have a look at their Instagram and follow Coach Reg for some excellent drills and coaching ideas. Here is the link to a small video made at our Caps camp. https://www.instagram.com/reels/DbEl1qlhtNC/

Coaching Clinic

Coaches – reminder that you have the option to attend the tackle clinic which will be outlining tackle introduction and breakdown as well as the new tackle height rules. IT’s FREE!

And finally

Any Mama’s who are thinking of playing... You are all welcome to join in! They even let me play sometimes. We are trying to get two women’s teams running again. We need a 2nd division team NOW, to support developing players with an eye to getting back into the Premier league for the 2027 season. We also want to provide a place for those of us who just want a laugh, young and developing, old, retired, not able to commit – we have a place for you too. If you are on the fence, over the summer we have Thursday touch. Come this Thursday for a run.

Touch is running every Thursday for the women (600), men/open (700), and snow caps @615. Come and join in where ever you feel comfortable. Usually, we divide into a mixed competitive and “less so” group (where I play!) depending on who is there, so you don’t need to worry about being a newbie. See you there this week! Dinner will be served in the club house afterwards.

All are welcome!

Cheers all.
