Capilano players on Canadian Classics

This past weekend, 8 Capilano RFC players joined the 60 player Canadian Classics roster in Calgary. Matches took place on Saturday July 16 at the Calgary Rugby Union. The first match of the day was against the Classic Mavericks. Capilano RFC members Matt Plant, Andy Plant, Chris Robinson, Lucas “Fish” McLennan, and Jordan Henderson played in this match which ended in a 26-26 draw.

The second match was against the American Barbarians. Capilano RFC members Jesse Ryan and Rich Merinsky played in this match. Sam Franklin started at 10 in the first game and also reserved in the second game of the day, the only player to get in both matches. The Canadian Classics were victorious in the second match 37-5. All Capilano members represented our club well, included the three on “Classics Debut”.

The Canadian Classics have also organized a Women’s Classics Tour for August. This will be in Newfoundland from August 25 to 28. At this time the roster includes at least 4 Capilano Women’s members. We will announce the full roster closer to the tour date.
