Upcoming Mini/Youth Season – Welcome Back
Back to all posts ›
Hi all
Welcome back!
Thank you all for your patience on the registration delay. It should be up and running in a day or two as will the website.
First day of Minis is September 11th, at 10am
Anyone who is ready to go now, U11’s run touch on Tuesdays at 600pm. All welcome. Runs to August 30th.
First day for Youth, U14, U16 and U18 boys and girls, is Wednesday August 31st at 6:00pm – This is an optional practice for those of you dying to get going. We will start officially on Wednesday September 7th 6:00pm the first week of back to school (note U18 may start at 630 – TBD).
Some news and requests:
Minis Kitchen
Michelle our rock star from the kitchen will no longer be running it. PLEASE, we need someone or a group of people, to step up to fill her shoes. I know, big ask, big shoes to fill. Michelle is willing to show the ropes for a day or two to whom ever takes over and make the transition smooth. Michelle, YOU ROCK!
Team Managers
We need 1 or 2 team managers for each group. This would help a great deal; and, for only one team, it’s not a lot of work. If anyone likes to be involved but does not throw a ball, this is for you. Since we now have team snap, it’s not so difficult. Contact me if you have any questions.
We already have a number of people who have stepped up to help out – Andrea Jenks as well as John McCormack are two who come to mind. Shout out to you both!
Team Snap
I am delighted to announce that we have team Snap back. For those of you who use it, I can hear you breathing a sigh of relief. For those of you who are new, this is an amazing program in which you can indicate attendance – with space for comments,
contact each other for rides, see schedule, and include whoever you like on the email list. YOU (not me) get to add grannie, grandpa, the nanny, your ex, the dog catcher, to get custom rugby notifications to the device of everyone’s choice. etc. etc.
Medical people
We have a wealth of medical people in the club so there is always someone there to help. This year with team managers to organize, perhaps we can have someone who is going to be there anyway, officially on call for each jambouree or each game. I can add a spot in team snap for parents to fill in so we know there will be someone to call on. In some cases this may be a coach as well. This does not have to be the same person each week.
Kit
We have Minis Kit consisting of jersey, shorts and socks available on the first day of Rugby for $115. If you would like to come ahead of time, drop by on Wednesday evening September 7th between 615 and 7 15. I can’t guarantee all sizes at this point though – especially really little ones (I have no jerseys smaller than size11/12).
Youth (U14, U16, U18) only need socks ($20) and shorts ($35). Game jerseys are provided and collected each game.
Swag
Hang tight. The club is in the process of setting up a permanent online shop with “The Rugby Shop”, so you will be able to order Capilano branded, hoodies, etc., to be delivered to your house at any time. Kit is still done through the club to start.
Congratulations to youth players who made the training camps after PRC’s
BC rugby has never published a list of who was selected for the provincial training camps, so I only know who was selected through heresay (other club coordinators say the same thing). The list of players who made provincial teams after the camps, for U16 and U18, is published on the BC Rugby website, and there are a number of our players on there. Congratulations to you all!
The U14 boys and girls had players selected for the camps too. The boys are pictured here after their final provincial camp game. If anyone has a photos of the girls after their final game, I would love to have it. The one below is our PRC team.
For parents who are looking to play, the old boys are always looking for players and are happy to “poach players from the minis parents” (their words!). Touch also runs on Thursday evenings along with the bar.
The women’s Seconds and Prems are also welcoming players and will happily take experienced to new players. They practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
I don’t know the state of the men’s sides, but I expect they will all be happy to have players there too. Many of our “aged out” youth players who did not go away to University are there as well as parents. It is a lot of fun.
Game days for Senior rugby
Will keep you posted on the games schedule for us as well as for the senior teams. The first home Saturday is always great fun and is usually the 3rd or 4th Saturday in September.
For all home games, Minis are encouraged to don their stripy jerseys and come to be ball carriers. It is a great opportunity for players to learn the game and those on the side lines are very kind and encouraging in showing our littles the ropes. Parents, naturally, get to watch in the stands and enjoy the bar. As always, any minis attending senior games wearing their stripy jersey, get free gate.
Again, hang tight for registration. Will send out an email as soon as it is running.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Cheers
Julia and crew
